As a mark of its concern for environmental degradation, particularly pollution of the rivers caused by discharge of industrial effluents, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) has introduced awards with a view to developing wider awareness to help formulation of balanced action programmes for minimizing river pollutions and at the same time, ensuring that productions are not hampered or employment threatened. The awards will be given every year.
Of the two awards, one will be given to a journalist/producer of TV programme for best investigative journalism/electronic media programme on river pollutions caused by discharge of industrial effluents. The award comprises of an MCCI plaque with suitable citation, a cash amount of Taka one lac and books and periodicals on environmental issues including annual subscription upto Taka fifty thousand.

The criteria for selection of investigative journalism/TV programme will be briefly as under:
- It must be investigative journalism/TV programme/TV feature film on river pollutions caused by discharge of effluents of industrial enterprises printed/published/telecast between the 1st January and 30th September 2009.
- It must contain specific suggestions for solution/control of the said river pollution.
- It must contribute to raising of public awareness on the need for prevention/control of river pollutions.
- It must have impact on print/electronic media so as to be followed up by similar reports/programmes in a systematic manner to contribute to the cause of clean rivers.
Another award will be given to an entrepreneur/enterprise, who/which has taken any commendable initiative/programme for treatment/control of effluent discharge control during the period, 1st January to 30th September 2009, thereby minimizing/eliminating environmental pollutions. The selected entrepreneur/enterprise will be presented with an MCCI plaque with suitable citation. |

Both the selections will be made by an autonomous Committee which consists of 5(five) leading personalities enjoying widespread reputation and confidence, as mentioned below:

The Selection Committee hereby invites nominations of such newspaper reports/TV programmes/TV feature films. For each nomination, a copy of the newspaper report/a CD of TV programme/TV feature film ought to be sent with the nomination. At the same time, the concerned journalists/producers of TV programme/feature film are also welcome to seek directly the selection and for doing so, submit the newspaper report/TV programme/TV feature film.

The last date for submission of nominations/requests for selection is the 30th November 2009.
Similarly, entrepreneurs/enterprises who/which have taken commendable initiatives for effluent treatment/control of effluent discharge, may be nominated by the 30th November 2009 giving detailed particulars of the initiative/programme for the individual award. Such entrepreneurs/enterprises are also welcome to write directly seeking the selection, submitting therewith the requisite information on the initiatives for effluent treatment/control of effluent discharge during the period, 1st January to 30th September 2009.
The Selection Committee reserves the right of making the final selection.
